HILLSIDE FESTIVAL 2024

El Cerrito’s tenth Hillside Festival will be Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, 2024!
Enjoy the Hillside Festival, with more than a dozen hikes and other events throughout El Cerrito’s 100-acre Hillside Natural Area. The festival, put on by El Cerrito Trail Trekkers and co-sponsored by the city’s Environmental Quality Committee, is free.

Hikes start from several trailheads and touch on such subjects as native flora and fauna, insects, trees, geology and history, poetry, fire safety and habitat restoration. Events appeal to everyone from children to seasoned naturalists.
Among events this year will be two art-making sessions for children programs run by artist Lucy Ames. We are adding a second session because last year’s event proved so popular. Plus, Audrey Liese will run a crafts-making event tied to the plants of the Hillside.
Always popular is Alan Siegel’s edible and medicinal plants walk, and Eddie Dunbar’s insect hike. We will also have an event focused on a “bioblitz,” studying and charting native flora and fauna. Our annual haiku contest, with poems submitted before the festival, and readings along the trail, is also a popular feature.
